Going Gold for Pediatric Cancer
In 2025, Shen senior, Samantha Goetz, was diagnosed with CIC:DUX4 fusion metastatic sarcoma, a type of stage 4 kidney cancer. A group of Civics Capstone students made of up Samantha's friends and classmates are hosting a gold basketball game to raise funding and awareness for the Melodies Center; the sole provider for Pediatric Cancer and blood disorders treatments in the Capital Region.
Join them on December 16 at Shenendehowa High School at 7pm (game starts immediately following the Junior Varsity Basketball Game) for a joint Shen Boys Varsity Basketball game and fundraiser. Stop at their table located in the lobby, where they will be selling cancer ribbon signs for one dollar. They are asking people to stand and hold up their signs during halftime to show support for those who fight or have fought. They will also be collecting donations (cash or check) for the Melodies Center.
