At Shenendehowa CSD, the Human Resources team works in close partnership with hiring managers throughout every stage of the recruitment and hiring process. All individuals involved in a search are expected to review the provided guidelines, resources, and templates to ensure a consistent and equitable process.
For a comprehensive overview of the recruitment and hiring procedures, please refer to our detailed Recruitment & Hiring Policy.
The recruitment cycle consists of five key steps:
- Approval & Posting a Position
The hiring manager secures the necessary departmental and budgetary approvals, then submits a Request for Posting to the Office of Human Resources. Once approved, an HR representative will post the position on the SchoolFront internal job board, school district social media sites, as well as RecruitFront, and other relevant external job boards and platforms.
- The Search
A search committee is formed, and the hiring manager communicates the Search Charge to all members prior to beginning interviews. The Charge includes essential information about the process, responsibilities, and implicit bias awareness.
The hiring manager also develops a consistent set of interview questions tailored to the role. All candidates—internal and external—are reviewed equitably, and interview feedback is documented by committee members in SchoolFront.
3. Selection
When a finalist is identified, the hiring manager completes the Recommendation & Reference Check form to inform HR of the selection. An HR representative then reviews the documentation and prepares a formal offer in alignment with the applicable collective bargaining agreement and benefits booklet for the position.
4. Making the Offer
Once the offer is approved by the Chief Human Resources Officer or Assistant Director of Human Resources, an HR representative will extend a verbal offer to the selected finalist. The HR representative will notify the hiring manager once the offer has been accepted, and will then send a formal offer letter and initiate the onboarding process.
5. Employment Start, Onboarding & Introductory Period
A finalist may begin employment only after completing all required new hire paperwork, obtaining fingerprint clearance, and receiving Board of Education approval.
Onboarding & Introductory Period
All new employees participate in a new hire orientation on their first day to become familiar with the district, its mission, and internal systems. This occurs before they begin work in their assigned building or department.
New hires also undergo an introductory period, during which they gain proficiency in their role and receive ongoing support. Managers and new employees engage in regular communication to ensure expectations are clear, performance is on track, and all necessary resources are provided for a successful transition.
