Artificial Intelligence

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made an immediate and indelible mark on education worldwide. At Shenendehowa, we have embraced the challenge of maximizing the opportunity that AI provides while also looking to minimize the associated risks. Our goal is to empower our students, faculty, and families to engage with AI properly. We believe, when properly guided by an experienced and professional staff, AI can enhance teaching practices, support personalized learning experiences for students, streamline administrative tasks, and improve overall educational outcomes. In the landscape of constantly evolving AI capability, we are constantly evaluating our work with AI to promote Safe, Ethical, and Effective practice.

The district will continue to refine clear guidelines and protocols for the ethical use of AI in various aspects of the school district.  This is particularly vital in teaching and learning, ensuring data privacy and security for all.  Shenendehowa will also regularly assess the impact of AI integration and adjust strategies accordingly.

To put the District in a position to lead this important work, Shenendehowa has created an AI Policy, an AI Ad-hoc Committee, integrated the work of 22 AI Coordinators across all grade bands, and evaluated and deployed limited AI tools to students and staff, where appropriate.

The ongoing work involves continuing to evaluate the safe, ethical, and effective use of District-approved AI tools as the technology grows and changes.  Through the work of our District Instructional Technology Integration Committee and AI Ad-hoc Committee, Shen is constantly monitoring new platforms, evaluating our current offerings, and providing important guidance to teachers, students, and families.

The District is committed to providing specific guidance and professional development to teachers and staff at all levels about if, when, and how AI is deployed.
