Academics

Shenendehowa prides itself on its commitment to providing high-quality and innovative educational programs. Learning at Shenendehowa is focused on the deep and meaningful study of content areas through innovative practices including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Preparing students with 21st-century skills requires a major shift from the traditional education model focused on the increasingly competitive global society, rapid technological advancements and a heightened sense of accountability for performance. The Profile of a Shenendehowa Student frames how students accomplish these skills at the elementary, middle, and high school level.

Learning Standards

Shenendehowa’s curriculum is based on the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards. These standards are designed to ensure all students have an academically rigorous learning experience. Click here for more information.

All district elementary schools will begin utilizing a standards-aligned report card for the 2025-2026 school year. This new report card has been thoughtfully developed with over two years of research and feedback from families and staff. The goal of this new grading process is to better illustrate your child’s learning progression on grade-level priority standards. It will measure student learning based on specific skills, curriculum standards, and learner attributes, moving beyond a single score.

We have prepared a video presentation to provide essential background information on how your child’s progress will be measured throughout the school year.

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

New York State’s ESSA plan, approved by the US Department of Education, is designed to meet the needs of students, schools and communities.  The policies and guidelines help prepare students for success in college and careers.  ESSA-Funded programs foster equity for all students and ensure schools across the state are accountable for student success.

More information about ESSA can be found here.

The following Shen policies and regulations have been developed to align with ESSA requirements:

  • 3130 – PUBLIC FEEDBACK AND CONCERNS AND ESSA-FUNDED PROGRAMS COMPLAINT PROCEDURES
  • 3130F – ESSA-FUNDED PROGRAMS COMPLAINT FORM
  • 8260 – TITLE I:  PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT POLICY
